Racial & Ethnic Diversity Working Group
This working group formed in late 2020 to develop a strategic plan relating to racial and ethnic diversity in the academic workplace. We released our strategic vision in 2021, which we adopted as WIN's strategic EDI focus in the 2021-22 academic year.
The mission of the racial and ethnic diversity working group is to support people who experience racism, and to cultivate the diversity of our members to better reflect the diversity in our scientific and social communities.
We aim to achieve this through a three-pronged approach:
- Working to support members of our institution by addressing systemic bias and discrimination
- Facilitating the diversification our workforce with incoming staff and students
- Using our voice to promote antiracism in our broader scientific community
The working group is currently advancing our strategic goals with two ongoing projects. The first project focuses on the development of a set of guidelines for organising WIN-Hosted inclusive events, and the second project is working towards compiling a set of recommendations for evidence-based diverse hiring practices for WIN recruitment.
