Culture & Community
values and culture
WIN seeks to be a world-leading research centre measured not just by the outputs we produce, but by the way we do science. We encourage everyone to engage with efforts to promote a positive research culture at WIN. Our core values are:
Open Science: we share our tools, data and expertise to ensure that our science is reproducible and transparent. Being open accelerates progress and ensures that our research has wide impact.
Inclusivity: we respect each other’s differences and work to remove barriers to equality. Our science is better if we are diverse; our workplace is better when we are inclusive.
Team science: we work across discipline boundaries and recognise that our successes are a collaborative effort. We celebrate the contributions of all, including those who provide the platforms to make great research happen.Engagement: we seek to engage the public and policymakers in the work that we do. Engagement enriches our research, inspires others and builds trust.
Feel free to click on the links if you would like to find out more about how we are working to implement these values.
community
We have a number of vibrant social groups that organise regular events at WIN. Everyone, regardless of role (including research staff, support staff, students and visitors) is welcome to get involved with these or to start a new group. Please email admin@win.ox.ac.uk if you have an idea for a new group you would like to start.
Wellbeing
We recognise that life in academia can come with challenges, and we are committed to making WIN a work environment where everyone feels supported. Please do not hesitate to speak with anyone in your lab, your line manager, or any of the WIN support staff if you have any questions or concerns about looking after yourself or your colleagues. Information about university-wide resources on health and wellbeing are on the Thriving at Oxford pages.
