WIN Ethics Procedure
A new system for submitting applications to CUREC is live from 5th August. Please follow the guidance below, but use the new system to submit. Some introductory guidance is here.
APPLICATION RESOURCES
Please see the CUREC website for more information on the CUREC application process, including CUREC application forms and template documents for research involving MRI, MEG, and NIBS.
Please use the templates from the CUREC website, rather than re-using documents from a previous study, to ensure that you are using the most recent version. Note that the PIS template was updated in March 2024 to state that participant complaints now have to be directed to RGEA instead of MS IDREC.
If your application requires a risk assessment, please see here for examples. Note that a risk assessment is usually not required if you are using an Approved Procedure with a healthy population.
If you wish to pay your participants for their time and/or reimburse travel expenses, you will need to specify this in your application. Information about how to arrange payments for participants is here, including example amounts. Note that these ranges are not mandatory or pre-approved, but merely guidelines based on common practice. An appropriate level of payment should be determined and reviewed by CUREC for each individual study.
WIN INTERNAL PRE-REVIEW PROCESS
MRI
CUREC 1 and 2 applications involving MRI require review by a departmental (WIN) reviewer prior to submission to MS-IDREC for final ethical approval.
Please follow the procedure detailed below and complete the internal WIN MRI CUREC Checksheet found below and return to admin@win.ox.ac.uk along with your CUREC application and supporting documents. Following this departmental review, you will be able to request departmental sign-off on your application from your HoD office. Once the WIN review is complete and you have HoD sign-off you will be able to submit your application to ethics@medsci.ox.ac.uk for final ethical approval.

MEG
CUREC 1 and 2 applications involving MEG require review by a departmental reviewer prior to submission to MS-IDREC for final ethical approval. Please contact sven.braeutigam@psych.ox.ac.uk for MEG review. If your study also involves MRI (including a structural scan only), please copy in admin@win.ox.ac.uk as well.
NIBS

Please complete the WIN NIBS Internal Review Pre-CUREC Submission Form and return to admin@win.ox.ac.uk along with your CUREC application and supporting documents. We will arrange for the NIBS team to review your application. Following this departmental review, you will be able to request departmental sign-off on your application from your HoD office. Once your review is complete and you have HoD sign-off you will be able to submit your application to ethics@medsci.ox.ac.uk for final ethical approval.
