Lara Biller

DPhil Student

Research Summary

I am currently a DPhil student, working under the supervision of Dr Polytimi Frangou and Professor Charlotte Stagg. My research is primarily interested in cholinergic signalling, and how this changes in certain disorders like Parkinson’s disease. Over the course of my DPhil, I will combine various non-invasive techniques, such as transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), high-field 7T MRI and MR spectroscopy to both measure and modulate the output of deep-brain cholinergic hubs. Our aim is for this work to provide valuable insights for the development of therapies to help people with Parkinson’s in the future.

Brain Health Advisory Group

As an ongoing patient and public involvement (PPI) initiative, I help facilitate monthly meetings between researchers and a panel of people with lived experience of various brain health conditions. These sessions are rewarding and informative for researchers and our panel alike. If you'd like to get involved or know more, please contact brainhealth@ndcn.ox.ac.uk
