I am a DPhil student in the Physics Group at the Oxford Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain (FMRIB).
The current focus of my research is on the development of Arterial Spin Labelling (ASL) MRI: a non-invasive technique used for cerebral perfusion imaging and angiography.
ASL MRI can be used to identify the position and size of perfusion abnormalities in stroke patients, informing treatment and prognosis. Since ASL does not use ionising radiation or an injected contrast agent, it can be safely used for monitoring these patients over a long period. However, clinical scans involve collecting many different types of information other than just perfusion, so data must be acquired quickly.
My work involves optimising data acquisition, so that accurate measurements can be collected in short scan times.
