Our research uses brain technologies to improve diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dementia.
An estimated 850,000 people in the UK are living with dementia. Over half of all UK adults know someone with dementia1.
There are many different types of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. Dementia can display many different symptoms in different people, including problems with memory and difficulties in carrying out activities of daily life.
There is no cure for dementia, but there are treatments that can slow down and reduce the symptoms. Brain technologies are important for both the diagnosis of dementia and for monitoring the disease over time.
Using brain technologies, our research aims to:
Improve MRI in the clinic
Launching the Brain Health Centre to improve access to high quality brain imaging for patients.
Help prevent dementia
Using brain technologies to assist with the diagnosis of dementia, to monitor the disease over time, and to help us identify ways to prevent dementia.
Investigating how dementia leads to problems with memory and motivation and developing new treatments for this.
