COVID-19
Our research uses brain technologies to understand what effect COVID-19 has on the brain and help identify targets for treatment.
COVID-19 is primarily a respiratory illness that led to a global pandemic in 2020. COVID-19 can affect people in many ways including cough, headaches, loss of sense of smell and taste, weakness, numbness and tingling and memory problems. COVID-19 can cause extreme sickness and death. Many people find that some of the effects of COVID-19, such as fatigue, breathlessness and brain fog, last for many months.
Scanning the brain of COVID-19 patients can help us to understand what is happening in the brain and why people are experiencing these symptoms.
Our Research
Using brain technologies, our research aims to:
Understand how COVID affects the brain
Exploring the mechanism underpinning how COVID enters and affects the brain during the illness.
Investigate after effects of COVID
Using brain scanning to investigate what is happening in the brain when symptoms persist after COVID.
Identify targets for treatment
Investigating if there are any brain targets for treatment that could help with recovery from COVID to reduce the effects on the brain.
