IT Charging Policy

Account Charges from August 2026

There are three account types available for use with OxCIN IT facilities - see Account Types - these are charged at the following rates:

There are no charges based on​ compute time.

Where you are able to use BMRC's compute facilities, separate charging will apply and BMRC should be contacted for details on their charge rates.

Storage Charges

From August 2026 we are introducing charges for working space ('scratch'), in addition to the longstanding charges for longer term storage ('/vols/Data'). Charges for these spaces are based upon the requested storage space (quota), not utilisation.

We are happy to allocate space in smaller blocks than 1TB.

For avoidance of confusion, 1TB = 1000GB = 1000KB - reported space on our servers is typically of the form 1TiB = 1024GiB = 1024KiB.

 

Where your project has been approved for migration to our new BMRC hosted cluster service, storage charges apply. At present this storage has no backup so you are recommended to also purchase space on another store, for example OxCIN's group storage service to allow you to backup results and important data.

Tape Archive

OxCIN IT operate a legacy tape archive facility for the medium-term storage of research data. This facility will remain in operation until at least August 2027 and to cover costs for the maintenance of the system access to this will attract a charge. The charge applies per PI and covers unlimited transfers in and out of the system for 12 months. The rate for the period 08/2026 - 07/2027 is £912.
