Talk outline*

This presentation looks at intersex existence in the UK, covering: human rights, legal status, cultural inclusion, and LGBTI+ allyship and solidarity, with a nod to the broader global context, and the impact of the Intersex-Inclusive Global Pride Flag. Intersex is a cultural umbrella term for naturally occurring diversity in our sex characteristics which we are born with.

 

Speaker biography

Valentino Vecchietti (she/her) is an intersex equality campaigner, artist and writer; recognised on the Pride Power List, DIVA Power List, Independent Pride List, OutSpoken Voice, Lesbian 100 List, and shortlisted for a Rainbow Honours.  She works extensively in culture as a writer, artist, and presenter.  Valentino is a DE&I policy consultant on intersex, and a diversity speaker.  For many years Valentino has contributed internationally to conferences and academic journals/articles.  She is the founder of Intersex Equality Rights. In 2021, Valentino’s work became globally recognised when she created the Intersex-Inclusive Pride flag. It became a viral phenomenon, and is internationally recognised as our current global Pride flag, increasing intersex visibility, representation, and inclusion worldwide.
