We develop new magnetic resonance imaging methods for studying the brain. Our research areas listed below share a number of common themes:
- Ultra-high field magnetic resonance: We host a state-of-the-art 7-Tesla human MRI scanner. Research at 7T encompasses RF hardware, real-time shimming and high-field contrast mechanisms.
- Image acquisition, reconstruction & contrast: MRI has unprecedented flexibility to produce rich and specific information about different tissues in the body. We develop novel techniques for studying brain structure, activity, vasculature and chemistry.
- Biophysical modelling: The MRI signaI is exquisitely sensitive to tissue physiology and microstructure. With appropriate biophysical models, we can estimate crucial aspects of brain health and disease, such as blood oxygenation or axonal myelination.
