Imaging Structure and Function
Jbabdi S.
Modern neuroimaging technology provides us with a unique opportunity to study the structure and function of living brains. The increasing quality and spatial resolution of structural brain images is beginning to reach the frontiers of in vivo histology. Advances in analysis methods and modeling allow structural measurements to become more quantitative, and provide both automated and accurate brain morphometry. Parallel progress in functional neuroimaging now provides a large spectrum of devices and methods for measuring neuronal activity either directly (electromagnetic recordings) or indirectly via hemodynamics. The possibilities for serial and/or simultaneous recordings of various signals provide the potential for complementary measurements. This chapter gives an overview of current research efforts in combining measurements of brain structure and function. © 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
