All these items can contain metal which can be attracted to the magnetic field. We can check these items before your scan and would only ask you to remove them if there is a risk of attraction or heating.

As of 2016 there were 17 types of IUD and IUS products in use in the UK. Almost all of them are safe to be scanned but we do need to know the type of IUD to check this.
\nWhile there is no evidence to suggest that MRI is harmful during pregnancy, the Department of Health advises against scanning pregnant women on high field strength scanners (2.5 tesla and above). We do not test for pregnancy so if you think you may be pregnant you should not be scanned.
\nFabrics that contain metallic threads or have been silver impregnated (often marketed as\u00a0anti-microbial/bacterial or anti-odour/stink) can heat up during a MR scan. This question usually only applies to underwear and these products are almost always labelled and they tend to be more expensive.
\nUnlike a clinical or diagnostic MR scan, our scans are only used for research, and you will not receive a report or copy of the scan. Our scans are not routinely looked at by a doctor and are therefore not a substitute for a doctor\u2019s appointment. \nDue to the very strong magnetic fields of our scanners, there is risk attraction for many objects that contain metal. These magnetic fields can also \u2018wipe\u2019 the information contained on credit cards, ID badges and train or parking tickets. We have lockers for your personal possessions that have a plastic key you can take with you inside the scanner.
