Speech & Brain
We use imaging and stimulation to study the neural basis of speech and language
Prof Kate Watkins
We investigate how brain areas interact during speech communication. We use brain imaging and brain stimulation to study typical speech perception and production and to explore differences in the structure and function of the brain associated with disorders of speech and language.
We are currently recruiting for two studies on stuttering:
In collaboration with colleagues in Australia we are investigating the genetics of stuttering. See www.geneticsofstutteringstudy.org.au
****WANTED: Adult Men who Stutter for brain stimulation and imaging study. See the INSTEP Study Website for more details and to contact us.
We are also recruiting for several other imaging and brain stimulation studies of speech production and perception. Contact us for details
We have completed our recruitment of children aged 10-15 with a range of language abilities including those who would qualify for a diagnosis of developmental language disorder. Thank you to all the children and their families who helped with this study. Watch this space while we analyse your data!
