Speech & Brain
We use brain imaging and brain stimulation to study speech and language
Prof Kate Watkins
We are interested in the neural basis of speech and language. We use brain imaging and brain stimulation to study typical speech perception and production and to explore differences in the structure and function of the brain associated with disorders of speech and language.
In collaboration with colleagues in Australia we are investigating the genetics of stuttering. See www.geneticsofstutteringstudy.org.au
We recently completed our second trial using brain stimulation to enhance fluency in people who stutter - see the INSTEP Study Website for more news and updates.
We have completed our recruitment of children aged 10-15 with a range of language abilities including those who would qualify for a diagnosis of developmental language disorder. Thank you to all the children and their families who helped with this study. Watch this space while we analyse your data!
