Deniz Gursul

DPhil Student

Deniz is studying for a DPhil in the Department of Paediatrics and is the E.P. Abraham Scholar in Life and Medical Sciences. She is investigating how pharmacological interventions (such as paracetamol and general anaesthetics) and non-pharmacological interventions (such as Kangaroo care and skin brushing) affect infants’ pain processing, as measured by electroencephalography (EEG) and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). This research could have the potential to improve the efficacy of pain interventions used clinically for infants.

Deniz is currently a member of St Cross College, and previously completed her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at New College, Oxford.
