Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging methods have been developed from chemical, medical and biomedical research and applied to the study of composite materials. The non-invasive, non-destructive nature of NMR makes the technique ideal for studies in many areas of materials science. In this work, we consider solvent uptake in thermoplastic composites, curing of thermoset composites and dissolution of amorphous interlayers, as well as detection of defects in composite structures. Likely future developments in NMR of materials will also be discussed, offering great potential in the analysis and monitoring of materials properties and processes.
