Deniz Gursul
DPhil Student
Deniz is studying for a DPhil in the Department of Paediatrics and is the E.P. Abraham Scholar in Life and Medical Sciences. She is investigating how infants respond to different clinically necessary procedures such as blood tests and immunisations, and how these responses are affected by pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management interventions, such as paracetamol, local anaesthetic, and slow gentle touch. Deniz is using electroencephalography (EEG) to measure pain-related brain activity, as well as measuring pain-related behavioural and physiological responses. This research could have the potential to improve the efficacy of pain interventions used clinically for infants.
Deniz is currently a member of St Cross College, and previously completed her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at New College, Oxford.
