Alexander Kaltenboeck
MD, MSc
Doctoral candidate
I am a DPhil candidate in Psychiatry (supervised by Prof. Catherine Harmer, Prof. Philip Cowen, and Prof. Michael Browning) and a member of the Psychopharmacology and Emotion Research Laboratory (PERL) and the Oxford – Medical Research Council Doctoral Training Partnership.
I am interested in neurocognitive models of mood disorders and how they can explain important clinical features of depression, such as treatment effects, treatment resistance, or certain co-morbidities. My current research explores how potential novel and less established treatments for depression influence the processing of affective information. This includes non-pharmacological treatments (such as bright light exposure and mental exercises), as well as drug treatments (such as pramipexole).
I have a background in medicine as well as philosophy and cognitive science. I graduated from the Medical University of Vienna in 2015 as a medical doctor and subsequently went on to complete a master's degree in Mind, Language and Embodied Cognition at the University of Edinburgh (under the supervision of Prof. Andy Clark).
Currently, I am a member of Somerville College.
