Data Management Plans
Funders typically require a formal data management plan that describes how you will collect, characterise, process, store and archive the data that your research study will produce. This typically takes the form of a 1-3 page document describing the processes you will use and templates are typically provided. Funders usually provide a template document for you to fill in, but the University recommends the use of the DMP Online service which includes templates and advice on completion.
Information and advice on data management in research can be obtained from the University's Research Data web site http://researchdata.ox.ac.uk and via researchdata@ox.ac.uk.
Some of the questions you will be required to address in the DMP templates relate to the technical implementation of central storage/compute and the operation of shared experimental equipment e.g. MRI scanners. We have added notes to a MRC DMP template, available here to assist with answering questions related to the IT facilities. Details of MRI/MEG equipment operation and procedures/policies and data formats can be obtained from the relevant technical staff.
