WIN Wednesday EDI SeriesOxCIMI: OxCIN’s Inclusive Meetings Initiative

Presented by

Abstract: Group meetings are opportunities to share ideas, hear different perspectives, and learn something new. But standard group meeting formats can make it harder for some students and colleagues to contribute or follow along, which means we may miss valuable perspectives. The EDI committee is launching OxCIN’s Inclusive Meetings Initiative (OxCIMI), a new programme aimed at making group meetings more inclusive. We will run a centre-wide trial of simple adaptations to how group meetings are run, such as brief pauses for reflection, sharing slides and a short agenda in advance, a named moderator to balance contributions, keep time, and support inclusive language, or multiple ways to engage (speaking, invited rounds after pauses, chat). Each participating group will tailor the format to their own needs. Our aim is to make it easier for everyone to follow and contribute to group meetings and thereby strengthen OxCIN’s diversity of ideas and perspectives.
